The Department of Africana Studies offers two bachelor’s degrees and three minors that explore Africa, the Black experience in the United States, and the broader African diaspora from complementary perspectives.
Bachelor of Arts and Minor
Examine the histories, cultures, politics, and lived experiences of Black, African American, and people of African descent in the United States while exploring issues of identity, justice, and social change.
Bachelor of Arts and Minor
Study Africa’s languages, cultures, histories, politics, and societies through an interdisciplinary and global perspective.
Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate Degree
Combine a bachelor’s degree in African American Studies with a Master of Public Policy through an integrated five-year program.

The department offers many enriching experiences outside of the classroom—from faculty-led programs and embedded courses to cultural student organizations and annual trips to the Model African Union in Washington, D.C.
