Professional Bio

Marcelius Braxton is the director of the Center for Social Change and Belonging at Penn State. He also holds affiliate academic appointments as an associate teaching professor of African studies and professor of philosophy at Penn State.

Marcelius has a B.S. in political science, philosophy, and economics with an African Studies certificate from the University of Pittsburgh, a M.A. in philosophy from the University of Missouri, and a J.D. (Juris Doctor) from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He is currently pursuing a D.Ed. (Doctor of Education) at Penn State.

He has experience teaching courses in philosophy, political science, Africana Studies, leadership and organizational administration, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and the first year experience. His interests include Black consciousness, colonization and decolonization, post-colonial theory and settler colonialism, Pan-Africanism, African and Africana philosophy, intersectionality, feminism, liberation, and the intersection of power, resistance, and change.
