Graduate Programs

Choose the graduate program that best complements your academic interests and disciplinary training.

The Department of Africana Studies offers dual-title doctoral programs, graduate minors, and a graduate certificate that provide interdisciplinary perspectives on Africa, the Black experience in the United States, and the broader African diaspora.

Why Choose a Dual-Title Program?

A dual-title program allows students to combine doctoral study in their home discipline with interdisciplinary training in Africana Studies. Graduates develop expertise in both fields while expanding their research, teaching, and professional opportunities through collaboration across departments.

Dual-Title Ph.D. | Graduate Minor

The African American and Diaspora Studies program combines doctoral study in a participating discipline with interdisciplinary scholarship on the histories, cultures, and lived experiences of people of African descent around the world. Students complete coursework and research in both Africana Studies and their home academic department, developing expertise that strengthens their research, teaching, and professional opportunities.
